The very strong Southerly winds experienced across the region intimidated the vast majority of the dingy and keel boat fleet at the Punt Club as one might expect, but two brave souls, supported by an experienced safety boat crew, decided to brave the elements. Fred Wickham in his laser and Elske Wilton in her splash raced around the course, with a tricky first beat to the windward mark and very fast reaching to the two Jibe marks made the racing exciting to watch for the safety boat crew and the spectators on the pontoons who turned out for the usual tea and cakes.
Both finished in fine style after a close run race.
1st The Funky Purple Thing, Elske Wilton
2nd Pessimist , Fred Wickham
However it wasn’t just the two sailors who were getting wet, as white horses were breaking onto the windward side of the pontoons, creating a spray which threatened to dampen the most adventurous spirits as well as the cake.
Thanks to the duty team for making this exciting day happen.
