Barton Regatta 2022

August Bank Holiday Weekend, Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th August 2022.

What has happened?

What was the Norfolk Punt Club Open Regatta on Saturday and Sunday and the Barton Broad Open Regatta on Monday have now merged to create a new single event run by the Norfolk Punt Club with racing and social events across all three days.  The Barton Regatta launches on the August Bank Holiday weekend 2022 and will be an evolution of the previous regatta structures, building on the successes of the past to create a thriving, diverse, inclusive, fund-raising and remarkable broads sailing regatta: the grand finale to the summer sailing season.

Fabulous Barton Broad

Barton Broad offers an unparalleled sailing experience and the largest sailing area of any of the Norfolk and Suffolk broads.  The unique location, without land access, allows for an amazing festival of sailing and a spectacle seen nowhere else.  The Norfolk Punt Club is experienced at running large events and will run a smooth well managed regatta to make sure that we make the most of this spectacular location.

Racing will start at 11:00 on Saturday morning and the series will run through to 13:45 on Monday with a Prize Giving scheduled for 14:45.  The first River Cruiser race will be 15.40 on Saturday, giving time for boats to travel from Oulton if they wish.

Single Entry Fee

There will be a single entry fee of £20 per boat for the whole regatta, £5 for Juniors.  This will allow entry into as many series as you wish.  We are encouraging sailors to sign up in advance using WebCollect but entry will be possible on the day.

We are very pleased to be working with the Barton Turf Adventure Centre to offer the option of camping at this year’s regatta.  We can host people in tents, campervans and caravans (without electrical hook up).  Toilets and showers are available and there will be a pop up cafe offering breakfast on site.  Camping will cost £50 per family for the whole weekend.

Hot Evening meals only £8

We are working with local providers to offer some fabulous hot food on both the Saturday and Sunday evenings.  On Saturday as part of the Boat Shed Party the White Horse Inn will be on site cooking their delicious stuffed flatbreads; marinated lamb, mediterranean chicken or moroccan falafel served on a sourdough naan with hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pickled red cabbage, crispy onions, garlic sauce and sweet chillies!

On Sunday Nelson County Catering will be bringing their Hog Roast out to the pontoons and serving up a fab meal with salads, potatoes and a veggie/vegan alternative.

All meals will cost £8 for adults and £4 for juniors.  Sign up early on WebCollect to guarantee yourself some amazing food for the weekend.

Pop up Breakfast Cafe

The lovely people at the Barton Turf Adventure Centre will be opening a pop up cafe each morning from 8 till 11.  They will be serving full breakfasts, hot sandwiches, tea and coffee, with the option to eat at their kitchen or to take away.

The Punt Club Tea Hut

The fabulous Punt Club Tea Hut will be open every day serving a delicious selection of home made cakes, tea, coffee and soft drinks.  Please come along to the pontoons, sample the fabulous food and enjoy the best seat in the house for watching the racing.

Boat Shed Party

Saturday night will see a return to Cox’s BoatYard barn at Barton Turf and a chance for us to host a Boat Shed Party!  The White Horse Inn will be setting up their bar inside the shed as well as providing food.  We have a brilliant band Beaky and the Meerkats, who will be performing.  We’ll clear a dance floor and get the party started!

Entry is free to competitors, the bar will be open from 5 till 11 with food served from 6.

Trophy Hunters

We have over 35 trophies to award this year!  There are many series and events so lots of opportunities to win some spectacular silverware.

Water Frolics

Sunday’s sailing racing will finish at 15.50 with a bang and a huge pursuit race involving as many classes of boat as possible.  There are trophies for first YBOD, first BOD, first Yeoman, first River Cruiser, first Allcomer (PY 1200 or under) as well as first boat overwintering on the Ant or whose owners live on the Ant.

This will be followed by a water frolic and fun races including; rowing races (10 and under, 11-15 and 16+), a swim, sail and paddle mixed relay and a greasy pole.

There will be a Hog Roast available on the pontoons, competitors are welcome to bring their own drinks and the Prize Giving for the pursuit race and fun races will take place during the evening.

Getting to the Broad

There will be a regular ferry service from Barton Turf to the pontoons for competitors and spectators as well as regular tows out to the Broad and back if required.

There are Junior races throughout the regatta and individual courses will be set for juniors.  Entry for Juniors is just £5 for the whole regatta including 10 and under and 11 to 15 rowing races.  Food options have been kept to just £4 for Juniors and we hope to see as many young people participating as possible.

We have Barton Regatta 2022 merchandise to sell and give away to make sure that you can commemorate the relaunch of this amazing regatta.
