finishing at 11.30.

Tow out 9.30 if required.

This mainly for those who have sailed a little (beginners and improvers), and numbers will be limited.

These sessions will be designed as a complete course; so your junior will get the most out it by attending all 6 sessions but obviously that is not essential.

We would hope to encourage your junior to enter the first race of the Sunday programme at 11.30 (coached round by the instructors).

This is open to members only and will be free BUT we need a few parents to help for at least 1 or 2 sessions.

Welcome to the Norfolk Punt Club Junior Week 2024. This is a week of fun junior sail training delivered by RYA qualified instructors on Barton Broad.

During the week we focus on learning to sail and improving existing skills, having fun, and building confidence on the water.  We welcome both beginner sailors and those with prior experience.  Our enthusiastic instructor team will deliver instruction based around the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, using exercises, games and courses to help the sailors develop their skills and experience, and potentially achieve an RYA certificate.

During the week we will also have a half day Try-a-Boat experience for all the sailors – this gives everyone the chance to have a go in different boats, and perhaps experience a trapeze, with the support of experienced helms.

On the Friday we will run a friendly and supported Junior Regatta, where all the sailors can race in their different classes for club cups.

Junior Week runs from the 19th to 23rd August 2024 and is based on the Club pontoons on Barton Broad (see map for details).  Sessions times are 9.30am to 4pm daily.  This week is available to those aged 8 to 18yrs.  (children aged 5 to 7 may book on to Barton Bugs – 20th to 22nd August)

During the week we offer the following groups:

*Beginner Optimist

This group is suitable for young beginner sailors with little or no experience, they will be working towards RYA YSS Stage 1

*Improver Optimist

This group is for young sailors with some previous Optimist sailing experience (eg a Stage 1 or equivalent experience) and will be working towards RYA YSS Stage 2 & 3

*Beginner Topper

This group is for juniors who are independent sailors and have a Stage 2 or 3, or equivalent experience. The Feva is a double handed boat for junior improvers and has an asymmetric spinnaker. The group will be split into two sections; sailors new to Fevas and those with prior experience, with training, exercises and racing delivered appropriately. They will be working towards RYA YSS Stage 4 or Start Racing

*Advanced (sailing Laser 2000’s and Punts)

This group is for sailors with RYA Stage 4, or equivalent experience, previous double handed sailing experience and who are 14yrs + (approx).  Sailors will be able to develop their performance and spinnaker sailing, learn trapezing,  and practise racing.  The sailors will enjoy sailing and training in both L2000s and Norfolk Punts throughout the week.

You can sail your own boat or borrow one from NPC.  If you intend to sail your own boat, please indicate what boat you will be bringing within the booking form. If you need to borrow a boat we will supply and allocate the appropriate boat. We will share boat allocations with sailors at signing in on the first day.
